Grass seed in my dogs paw (between toes)?

my one year old springer spaniel has been licking his paw the last few days, we discovered today two grass seeds stuck in his fur between his toes about to borrow into his skin and after cutting away the fur between his toes (just to make sure) we noticed it looked sore and there were two holes in his skin. we squeezed them and two more seeds came out of the holes (so they must not have got far) and then we bathed the paw in salt water. is there anything else we could have done to help? Thanks
